since 2003 : Reviving the Playful World of Verner Panton

VERPAN was founded in 2003 as a design company dedicated to preserving and reintroducing the work of legendary Danish designer Verner Panton. Working in close collaboration with Verner Panton Design AG, the brand initially focused on lighting, carefully reissuing Panton’s most iconic lamps for a new generation.

In 2012, VERPAN expanded its scope to include furniture and interior objects, enabling it to reintroduce more of Panton’s vibrant, experimental designs into production. This move enabled architects and interior designers to create cohesive Panton-inspired spaces that blended lighting, furniture, and atmosphere.

Verner Panton: The Spirit Behind the Brand

Verner Panton (1926–1998) remains one of the most influential figures in modern design. Known for defying the muted minimalism typical of Scandinavian design, Panton embraced bold color, futuristic forms, and playful experimentation. His work spanned lighting, furniture, interiors, and immersive environments, such as the famous Visiona exhibitions. Many of his pieces are now considered icons of mid-century modern and space-age design.

VERPAN exists to safeguard this legacy, curating Panton’s archive and recontextualizing it for today while respecting the spirit of his original work.

Design Continuity and Key Collections

VERPAN’s catalogue is a blend of faithful reissues and rediscovered archival designs. Signature pieces include the FUN pendant series, VP Globe pendant, Spiral pendants, and Pantop lamps, as well as furniture classics such as the Series 270 F Armchair and Cloverleaf Sofa.

Their aesthetic DNA is unmistakable. The designs are sculptural and expressive, often featuring curved silhouettes, layered or reflective materials, and vibrant color palettes. VERPAN lighting is not just functional; it is designed to create mood and atmosphere, casting ambient glows or sculptural shadows that transform a space.

Sustainability and Materials

VERPAN’s sustainability ethos centers on timelessness and longevity. Their products are designed to last, with an emphasis on durability and the possibility of resale or donation at the end of their useful life. They prioritize recyclable materials where possible and design their pieces for assembly and disassembly, allowing individual components to be replaced rather than discarding entire fixtures.

While material details vary by product, VERPAN stays true to Panton’s original material intentions, using high-quality metals, plastics, textiles, and coated surfaces. Many lighting designs include metal reflectors and diffusers, while furniture often incorporates robust textiles and molded components. They also collaborate with suppliers to enhance logistics, minimize the impact of packaging, and reduce the environmental footprint of shipping.

Heritage Meets Modern Production

Reissuing classic designs brings unique challenges. VERPAN must strike a balance between fidelity to Panton’s original specifications and modern safety and electrical standards. Lighting pieces, for instance, are updated to comply with current regulations while preserving their authentic proportions and visual character.

The brand also navigates the tension between durability and sustainability, as not all mid-century materials were eco-friendly by today’s standards. They use recyclable materials wherever possible while maintaining the integrity and lifespan of each piece.

where to find

VERPAN has developed a global network of dealers and showrooms, with representation across Europe, Asia, and North America. Their showrooms in Copenhagen, Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Paris, Shanghai, and Zürich give designers and collectors a chance to experience the pieces in person.
