The Hoxton

Since 2006 : A New Kind of Hospitality

The Hoxton was founded in 2006 by Sinclair Beecham, co-founder of Pret A Manger, with the opening of its first location in Shoreditch, East London. The brand repurposed a former car park into a 205-room urban lodge, offering a no-nonsense experience that included free Wi-Fi, daily breakfast bags, and supermarket-priced mini-bar items. This forward-thinking approach broke away from traditional hotel norms, offering comfort with style and focusing on value without the hidden charges and rip-off prices often associated with hotels.

From the start, The Hoxton adopted a punk-inspired “anti-hotel” ethos, with a focus on transparency, simplicity, and creating a space where guests could feel at home without unnecessary frills.

About the hoxton

Now operated under Ennismore, led by Sharan Pasricha, and majority-owned by Accor, The Hoxton has evolved into a globally recognized boutique lifestyle chain. With 14 active locations across Europe and North America, the brand positions itself as an “open-house” that blends stylish accommodations with community-driven spaces. Each hotel is designed to offer a balance of affordability and style, with vibrant bars, restaurants, communal lobbies, and flexible meeting spaces (e.g., The Apartment), which emphasize the brand’s commitment to creating spaces that encourage interaction and cultural connection.

No-bullshit Simplicity : True to its roots, The Hoxton offers transparent pricing with no hidden charges. Free Wi-Fi, breakfast bags, and comfort without the unnecessary frills are key to the brand’s no-fuss approach.

Community-Enabled Spaces : The Hoxton’s lobbies double as living rooms, where locals and guests mingle over coffee, cocktails, and spontaneous events like art shows, DJ sets, and run clubs. These spaces reflect the brand’s ethos of inclusivity and cultural engagement.

Rooted in Locality : The brand thrives on adaptive reuse, transforming neighborhood buildings such as car parks, BT offices, and canal houses into vibrant hotels. Interiors are filled with curated art, design, and furnishings that reflect each city’s unique character.

“Urban Lodge” Concept : The Hoxton blends the structure of a hotel with the comfort of a home and the spirit of a communal space. Guests can unwind in cozy lounge areas, enjoy fireplaces, browse editorial book selections, or access kitchen pantries in shared spaces.

Value-Forward Transparency : As an early adopter of honest pricing, The Hoxton’s supermarket pricing and free services set it apart from traditional hotels, offering competitive advantages that resonate with value-conscious travelers.

Cultural Magnet : Each Hoxton property becomes a cultural hub, featuring an active event calendar that includes everything from DJs and rooftop terraces to art exhibitions and fitness pop-ups, making it a dynamic part of the local scene.
