since 2017 : Nordic Minimalism Meets Responsible Luxury
Born in Copenhagen in 2017, Tekla Fabrics has quietly reshaped the landscape of modern homeware. Behind the label are Charlie Hedin, the brand’s Creative Director, and Kristoffer Juhl, Managing Director, who together envisioned a design studio rooted in care, quality, and responsibility.
All pieces are designed at Tekla’s Copenhagen studio, while production takes place mainly across carefully selected European manufacturers. This mix of Nordic creativity and continental craftsmanship forms the backbone of the brand’s distinct identity.
Philosophy, Values, and Responsibility
Tekla is more than a design label. It positions itself as a steward of thoughtful living, committed to slow design and ethical production. Their ethos is captured in a simple mantra: design for longevity, produce responsibly.
Rather than chasing trend cycles, Tekla prioritises durability, quality, and emotional connection to products. They are transparent about their journey, publishing an annual responsibility report that outlines goals related to supply-chain traceability, worker welfare, and emissions reduction. By 2024, they had achieved over 93 percent visibility of their Tier 1 to Tier 3 suppliers, ensuring social and environmental standards throughout their network.
Materials are central to their mission. Around 96.8 percent of their 2024 textile volume came from preferred fibres such as organic cotton, European linen, recycled wool, mohair, and both virgin and recycled cashmere. Many of these carry GOTS certification for organic cotton or EDFA and Downpass certifications for down.
Tekla became a certified B Corporation in April 2023, scoring 91.7 on the B Impact assessment, a mark well above the global median. They measure their carbon footprint annually with external partners like Normative and openly acknowledge that while Scope 3 emissions have grown as the company has scaled, they are actively transitioning suppliers toward renewable energy and low-carbon practices.
Products and Material Excellence
Tekla’s product range spans the home with a clear focus on quality, comfort, and responsible craftsmanship, from GOTS-certified organic cotton bedding that retains its structure through countless washes to richly textured blankets and throws in wool, recycled wool, mohair, and cashmere blends, alongside plush, high-absorbency terry towels, and relaxed, minimal sleepwear in organic cotton.
Nearly 99 percent of their textiles in 2024 came from preferred fibres, and many Tier 1 suppliers now use solar energy and reduced water and chemical inputs, reflecting Tekla’s commitment to longevity, low-impact production, and timeless, cohesive design across every category.
Collaborations and Creative Highlights
Tekla often uses collaboration to explore colour, craftsmanship, and artistic heritage.
- Le Corbusier Collection with Les Couleurs Suisse AG: handwoven mohair blankets in custom colours from Le Corbusier’s original palette.
- John Pawson: selected products influenced by the architect’s minimalist aesthetic and personal home.
- Creative projects with Stüssy, The Gentlewoman, Sarah Lucas / House of Voltaire, Auralee, and even Birkenstock x Tekla further showcase their versatility.
These collaborations embody Tekla’s ability to merge timeless design language with cultural narratives, keeping the brand visually fresh without succumbing to trend cycles.
where to find
In April 2023, Tekla opened its first flagship on Vognmagergade 7 in central Copenhagen, inside the historic Egmont Building. The 200-square-metre space reflects the city’s architectural heritage, blending Nordic Classicism and Modernist detailing.
Tekla ships to over 60 countries and is stocked by select premium retailers across Europe, Asia, North America, and Oceania. Markets include Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, and more.
While the Copenhagen flagship serves as their brand home, the broader strategy remains carefully curated wholesale, ensuring their identity and quality standards stay intact.
