Pomppa
since 2008 : Precision-Engineered Dog Outerwear
Pomppa has built a reputation as a Finnish performance outerwear brand for dogs, combining functional simplicity with advanced materials. Their coats are designed to protect active dogs from rain, wind, and freezing temperatures while allowing complete freedom of movement. Each model targets different seasons and activity levels, with concrete shell, lining, and insulation constructions.
Products
ToppaPomppa
Their flagship deep-winter coat is built for harsh arctic-level conditions. It features a durable polyester shell (as of the 2022–23 season, made from 100% recycled polyester) with 5,000 mm water resistance and a water-repellent treatment. Inside, it has a plush polyacrylic teddy lining and thick recycled polyester wadding insulation, providing extremely high warmth. The fit is intentionally loose to allow for layering or a dense undercoat. Features include a generous collar, elongated back length (about 2 cm longer than other lines), optional leg straps, harness openings, and machine-washable care.
SporttiPomppa
Softshell three-season coat, suited for autumn to spring and even mild winters. Its softshell top is made from 84 percent nylon and 16 percent elastane, with an inner layer of tricot knit (95 percent polyester, 5 percent elastane). It has a 10,000 mm water column rating with 10,000 g/m²/24h breathability, plus a PFC-free water-repellent finish. It has no heavy insulation, offering moderate warmth while staying light and breathable. Functional details include a slim fit, water-resistant zipper, 360° reflective elements, flexible chest panels, and an adjustable waist.
SadePomppa
Lightweight rain shell made from 100% recycled polyester, featuring a 5,000 mm water resistance rating and a thin lining. It prioritizes dryness over warmth, keeping dogs comfortable in rain and wind without overheating. The design is simple, featuring a quick on-off closure, reflective stripes, durable fabrics, and minimal fasteners to keep the weight down.
This tiered product structure provides Pomppa with a layering system approach, similar to human outdoor gear, with models optimized for weather extremes, active use, or year-round rain protection.
Materials, Manufacturing, and Quality Control
Design and development are handled in Tuusula, Finland, while experienced partners in China carry out production. Pomppa sources recycled polyester shells primarily from Taiwan, and uses synthetic plush polyacrylic linings that are anti-static and fur-friendly for long-haired breeds.
Insulation layers are increasingly made from 100% recycled polyester, and newer models prioritize sustainability in their material choices. Components such as backings, fasteners, and trims are selected for durability and low environmental impact, while all garments are designed to withstand repeated washing without losing performance.
User Feedback and Performance Insights
Owners consistently praise Pomppa coats for their exceptional warmth and durability, especially the ToppaPomppa’s ability to keep muscle groups warm (back, thighs, abdomen) without restricting movement. The plush lining resists tangling long fur, and the shells endure repeated washing.
Reported challenges include occasional coat rotation during off-leash activity, particularly in looser-fitting models, which can be mitigated by using leg straps or sizing down to a smaller size. Some owners note that breed-specific body shapes make sizing tricky, and trying two sizes can be helpful.
