Chāmpo
since 2019 : Ayurvedic Heritage Meets Modern Hair Science
Chāmpo was founded in 2019 in the UK by Kuldeep Knox, who serves as its CEO. A graduate of the London School of Economics, Knox previously worked in private equity and the cosmetics industry, bringing a rare blend of analytical rigor and industry insight to the beauty sector.
Her inspiration was deeply personal. After experiencing hair thinning, she drew on memories of her Indian grandmother, who maintained thick, resilient hair well into old age using Ayurvedic oils and rituals. Knox saw an opportunity to combine this centuries-old wisdom with modern trichological science, creating a brand that would treat hair from root to scalp with equal care.
Product Philosophy and Ayurvedic Framework
Chāmpo is built around the Ayurvedic concept of doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha), which are used to classify various types of scalps and hair. Each range is tailored to a specific profile, such as the Pitta line for fine and thinning hair.
The formulations are designed to be both high-performance and naturally derived, often using plant-based ingredients in concentrations above 95 percent. The brand avoids harsh chemicals entirely, with products free from SLS, parabens, silicones, synthetic fragrances, GMOs, and artificial colours. This clean but clinical approach has helped Chāmpo stand out in a crowded haircare landscape.
Star Product: Pitta Growth Serum
The brand’s flagship innovation is the Pitta Growth Serum, created for fine or thinning hair. It is designed to be applied daily to the scalp, and independent user trials have shown striking results: after 12 weeks of use, approximately 90% of users reported reduced hair loss, 89% stated that their hair appeared thicker, and 88% noticed increased visible fullness.
Key active ingredients include caffeine to stimulate scalp circulation, creatine amino acids for strength and volume, Ayurvedic haritaki fruit extract for scalp health, a biomimetic peptide complex with red clover to reduce shedding, and lipo amino acids to soothe irritation and support the follicle environment. The formula is lightweight, non-greasy, safe for colour-treated hair, and made in the UK. It is also vegan and cruelty-free.
Ingredient Integrity and Formulation Insights
Chāmpo’s formulations are about synergy and restraint. Around 98 percent of the serum is naturally derived; however, the brand incorporates a few high-performance synthetic elements, such as VP/VA copolymers and preservatives, to ensure optimal texture, stability, and shelf life.
Their ingredient approach blends Ayurvedic actives that target scalp health and hair density with modern peptide technology to slow shedding and boost growth. This fusion of ancient and clinical thinking is at the core of Chāmpo’s identity.
Recognition and Awards
Chāmpo’s Pitta line has won multiple accolades, including the Marie Claire Hair Awards, and has been widely praised by both the press and consumers alike. This recognition has helped cement its reputation as one of the most effective and elegant entrants in the new generation of clean haircare brands.
Sustainability and Ethics
Chāmpo frames sustainability as part of its luxury positioning. All products are made in the UK, formulated with vegan and cruelty-free ingredients, and packaged with low-waste thinking. They favour eco-friendly plant actives over unnecessary synthetics and emphasise responsible sourcing.
This blend of ethical production, ingredient transparency, and performance has made Chāmpo a standout example of how heritage and science can coexist beautifully.
